Hit

A request received by the server.

Any server request is considered a hit. For example: When a visitor calls up a web page with six images, that is seven hits; one for the page, six for the images. Prior to sophisticated web analytics, this legacy term was used to measure the interaction of the  user with the website. Currently, Hits may be a useful indicator of server load, but are not considered useful for understanding visitor behavior.
